Job Description

The FrameWorks Institute -- a nonprofit think tank that designs, conducts, interprets and explains communications research to advance the resolution of social problems --  seeks a senior researcher to contribute to its iterative, multi-method research process, and to participate in its intellectual life.  The Institute is a virtual organization of senior staff and fellows located around the U.S.; position location is flexible.

The successful candidate must have: a Ph. D. in the social or cognitive sciences; excellent analytic, writing and organizational skills; and experience with applied research.   Candidates should be proficient in focus group design and facilitation and/or one-on-one interviewing.  Primary task is to identify and analyze cultural models in discourse.  Experience and familiarity with the disciplines and methods associated with Strategic Frame Analysis™ are highly desirable: research methods used in cognitive anthropology, political psychology, applied linguistics, sociology, etc.  Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, balance multiple research projects and work collaboratively across disciplines strongly favored.

Duties are as follows:

Research Design, Management and Interpretation

  • Conduct, manage, analyze and interpret original focus groups and/or interviews on specific projects
  • Identify additional researchers capable of undertaking specific aspects of FrameWorks inquiries
  • Work with FrameWorks management to secure input into qualitative methods
  • Provide input and interpretation into other methods based on qualitative findings
  • Write interpretive reports, as needed
  • Integrate research findings into applications materials, working with FrameWorks staff



Intellectual Contribution

  • Identify and share academic and applied work that should be considered by FrameWorks staff and contributors
  • Contribute to E-Zines, academic papers and working papers of the Institute, as requested
  • Master the presentation of FrameWorks’ communications perspective and research findings  
  • Read and assimilate all FrameWorks research and presentations
  • Participate in the development of applied materials based on this work, as requested
