About the position: Senior Operations Manager – Research Application, Communications and Engagement

We’re seeking an experienced project manager to join our team of social science research strategists and communicators in supporting advocates to shift public discourse, influence culture, advance social norms, seed policy change, or otherwise build power around progressive solutions through framing research and strategies.

The Senior Operations Manager will support the three teams within our Research Interpretation and Application (RIA) unit that provide framing and communications support to different groups across progressive movements. The position will help FrameWorks further develop and innovate the systems supporting its practice of mobilizing frames in the fields of economic justice, health equity, children and families, and other targeted movements.

The ideal candidate is someone who has strong project management, organizational, administrative, and communication skills; demonstrated experience in successfully supporting and coordinating between multiple teams; is intellectually curious, creative, and innovative; and is committed to advancing inclusion and equity.

This is a full-time position based in Washington, D.C. with the possibility of remote work.

Key responsibilities

  • Create, manage, and innovate standard operating systems and procedures for the Research Application, Communications and Engagement teams within the RIA unit, including:
    • Internal communications and tools
    • Agendas for regular meetings
    • Document storage and retrieval
    • Evaluation and measurement of team goals
    • Contract management, including drafting proposals and contracts
    • Annual team budgeting, in consultation with team Directors
  • Keep all team projects updated and coordinated across various project management systems (including Celoxis, Salesforce, and Monday.com), tracking staffing, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Oversee the organization’s editorial calendar, including managing the project timelines and checklists for the release of FrameWorks products and resources
  • Keep track of project proposals in development and circulate new contracts.
  • Develop and maintain updated forecasts of staff workloads across teams.
  • Maintain and update lists of upcoming deliverables and engagements.
  • Support production of materials and provide follow-up for engagements.
  • Coordinate with recruiter on logistical details of RIA unit research and maintain appropriate participant documentation.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other units about RIA projects.

Skills needed

  • Commitment to FrameWorks’ mission, including organizational commitments to equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills with close attention to detail
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Experience with project management software and ability to quickly master FrameWorks’ current systems
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work productively with partners and vendors
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary, partner-oriented team
  • Exceptional time-management skills; ability to thrive in a fast-paced organization and get things done; strategic and practical judgment to move work forward; flexibility and ability to adapt to changing needs

Experience required

The ideal candidate will possess

  • At least 5 years of work experience in project management and/or organizational operations and administrative work, preferably with a progressive nonprofit social change organization or movement.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in designing and improving operational systems
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: knowledge management, vendor management, contract management, scheduling, project budgeting
  • Proficiency with a wide range of software and database programs, including project management software
  • Experience in building collaborative partnerships with staff throughout the organization
  • Experience working collaboratively on a diverse team
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate principles of equity, justice, and inclusion into daily work
  • Experience working as part of a communications team or partnership team a plus.
  • Interest in social science research a definite plus

Salary: $75,000 or higher, depending on experience
