Connecting Democracy to Kitchen Table Issues

Americans want an economy that works for everyone. But real change for working people requires transforming both our economic and political systems. In this session, we shared ways we can connect these two ideas and help build a sense among the public that transformative change is possible. We discussed how to:

• Show that economic exploitation is a systemic policy choice—and can be changed
• Make the real-world impacts of “democracy” visible in people’s lives
• Connect rising authoritarianism to the economic hardships felt by the 99%
• Point to how collective action can shift power back to the people
