Transition Age Youth

Transition age foster youth face a number of challenges both within and outside of the foster care system. Many of these challenges have prohibited them from achieving the goals they seek to accomplish while also limiting their access to opportunities for growth. Journey to Success—an advocacy campaign working to improve outcomes for youth in foster care—worked directly with youth to outline six essential policy goals that are crucial to supporting their transition out of the foster care system. In this messaging guide we share an effective, evidence-based strategy for communicating about transition age foster youth and the policies they care about. As a companion to the Journey to Success policy campaign, this guide provides proven strategies for talking about its policy framework with policymakers and the wider public.
